WIND TUNNELS
The Aerodynamic Experimental Facilities of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid are located in the Parque Científico Tecnológico de la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, in the Montegancedo Campus, and in the Ciudad Universitaria, in the E.T.S.I. Aeronáutica y del Espacio.
The IDR/UPM has more than 7 wind tunnels that offer a very wide capacity for aerodynamic tests in different engineering applications. The most outstanding tunnels are
Wind tunnel | Features | Typical applications |
ACLA16 | Atmospheric boundary layer simulation | Civil Aerodynamics, Wind Energy, Low Speed Aeronautics |
A9 | Low turbulence | Civil Aerodynamics, Low Speed Aeronautics |
A4C | Two-dimensional flow | Profiles at low Reynolds numbers, Blunt bodies |
S4C | Very low turbulence, Very high uniformity | Anemometer calibration |
AB6 | Two-dimensional flow | Airfoils at mean Reynolds numbers, Dynamic stall studies |
S2-Gust | Non-stationary flow | Behaviour of bodies in gusts |
With them, IDR/UPM develops an intense activity of research and services to companies in the field of aerodynamics.
All the IDR/UPM wind tunnels have been designed and built with the human and technical resources available at the Institute. Thanks to this experience, other wind tunnels have also been developed for Spanish academic institutions (Universities of Leon and Malaga).
